    I love my Zen (again)

After the initial problems getting podcasts set up and understanding what the Zencast software does and does not do, i've had no more problems and have fallen back in love with my wee Zen.

During the week my 90 minutes in the car each day now feel MUCH shorter, with a wide variety of podcasts stored up to listen to.  When i plug it back into my PC it all just sorts itself out with updates, and recharges.  Pretty cool.

Its also got every single CD I own loaded onto it (and a few that I don't...) for when i'm in the mood for tunes.

QE2 on the Clyde - one of the best days of my life.

I was part of an enormous flotilla of small ships, escorting the legendary QE2 Ocean Liner down the Firth of Clyde 40 years to the day since her launch there.

Read about it, see the videos and pictures here - http://www.roblightbody.com/liners/qe-2/20_sep_2007.htm

I'll never forget the day for the rest of my life.  Being close alongside such a huge ship underway was simply amazing.

    iPod 1. Zen Nil.

    ARGH!

Just spent 2 hours trying to put podcasts on my Zen MP4 player and have failed due to the very deeply poor quality of the software for the player (it crashes on both my XP laptop and Vista desktop).   Amazing how an otherwise excellent product can be completely let down by its supporting software.  You really could use my experiences over the past 2 hours as an advert for iTunes + iPod.  I just wanted to have podcasts with me to listen to in the car, doesnt seem unreasonable in 2007, nearly 2008.

I'm not blaming Microsoft for this, I'm blaming Creative.  The fact that it crashes on 2 completely different computers, and that other people are having the same problem, simply means they didn't do their job properly.

However, if you're just wanting to take your music collection about with you, windows media player + Zen are fine...

I challenge you to read this, and not be very concerned indeed about the future.

"The ice is moving at two metres an hour on a front 5km [3 miles] long and 1,500 metres deep"

    and

"the island, which has an ice cap 3km thick containing enough water to raise worldwide sea levels by seven metres"

    and

"...the estimates of sea level rise in the IPCC report were conservative and based on data two years old. The predicted rise this century was 20cm to 60cm, but it would be at the upper end of this range at least, he said, and some believed it could be two metres. This would be catastrophic for European coastlines. "

    and

"The glacier is now moving at 15km a year into the sea although in surges it moves even faster. He measured one surge at 5km in 90 minutes - an extraordinary event. "
